Free Split PDF Tool
Take the pages you need out of a PDF, or split a long PDF into smaller files. Free, no sign-up, and your file never leaves your device.
Example: 1-3,5 keeps pages 1, 2, 3 and 5. "8-" means page 8 to the end.
When to split a PDF
A long PDF is not always what you need. Maybe a portal accepts only the first three pages, or you want to send a single invoice from a bundle, or you need to share one chapter of a long document. Splitting lets you keep only the pages that matter and leave out the rest.
This tool works in your browser, so private papers never travel to a server.
How to split a PDF
- Press "Choose a PDF file" or drop your file into the box. The tool shows how many pages it has.
- Pick a mode: "Pick pages", "Every page" or "Every N pages".
- For "Pick pages", type the pages you want, such as 1-3,5,8-.
- Press "Split PDF".
- Download the new file or files.
Page ranges made easy
- 1-3 keeps pages 1, 2 and 3.
- 1,4,6 keeps only those three pages.
- 5- keeps page 5 and everything after it.
- -4 keeps pages 1 to 4.
- 2-3,7,10- mixes ranges and single pages. The pages come out in the order you type them.
If you want to remove pages, list the pages you want to keep. For example, to drop page 2 of a 5-page file, type 1,3-5.
What the new file keeps
- Kept: text, pictures, fonts, page size, page rotation and links to web addresses.
- Removed: bookmarks, form fields and links that jump to other pages.
- Not supported: password-protected PDFs. Remove the password first in the program that made the file.
Common uses for splitting a PDF
- Send only the signed page of a long agreement.
- Share one chapter or one section of a report without sending the whole book.
- Cut a scanned bundle into separate documents, one for each page.
- Remove a cover page, a blank page or a page with private details before you share the file.
- Meet an upload limit by sending a large file in two or three parts.
The tool keeps your original file untouched, so you can try different page ranges as many times as you like. If you make a mistake, just press Clear, choose the file again and start over. Check the first and last page of every new file before you send it, and give each part a clear name so the person who receives it knows what it is.
Splitting is also useful for privacy. Before you send a bank statement or an agreement to someone, you may want to share only the pages they really need. Keeping the rest on your own device is a simple way to protect your information. If you need to combine the pages you kept with other files later, use our Merge PDF tool.
Private by design
The file is read and written on your own device. We do not upload, store or read your PDF. If you close the page, the files are gone from the tool. Your original file is never changed.
