Meta Business Verification: documents, steps and how to avoid rejection

Meta Business Verification: How to Verify Your Business Step by Step

Sooner or later, most businesses that run ads on Facebook or use WhatsApp for customer chats get a message from Meta asking them to verify the business. The process itself is not hard. The trouble is that the steps sit in different places, and a small mistake in the business name or documents can send you back to the start.

Below we go through what verification actually is, who needs it, the documents Meta accepts and the reasons requests get rejected, using Meta’s own help pages as the reference.

What is Meta business verification?

It is Meta’s way of confirming that a business portfolio belongs to a real, registered company. Your business portfolio is the account in Meta Business Suite where your Facebook Page, Instagram account, ad accounts and WhatsApp numbers are managed.

Meta checks two things. First, that the business is a legal entity with an official address or phone number. Second, that you are connected to it, which you prove by receiving a code on the business phone or email, or by verifying your website domain.

A lot of people expect a blue tick at the end. That does not happen. Business verification gives no badge at all. The badge comes from Meta Verified, a separate paid subscription, which we compare at the end of this article.

Do you need to verify your business?

Not always. Some portfolios are not even eligible. Meta says verification may be needed for things like:

  • raising your daily ad spending limit
  • the WhatsApp Business Platform (the API that chat tools and CRMs connect to)
  • developer features and apps that need advanced access
  • Meta Business Partner programmes
  • Page transparency and some financial services ads

If WhatsApp matters to your business, verification makes a real difference. According to Meta’s developer documentation, a new business portfolio can start conversations with 250 people in 24 hours, and verifying the business is one of the ways to raise that limit to 2,000.

You can check your status in Security Centre inside Meta Business Suite. It will show either a “Start verification” button or the words “Ineligible for verification”.

Check these details before you start

Most rejections come down to small mismatches, so it is worth spending ten minutes on this first.

Make sure you have full control of the business portfolio, because only full-control admins can start verification. Your company should be registered: a private limited company, a PT or CV in Indonesia, or a sole proprietorship with a licence.

Then look closely at the legal name. It must match your registration documents exactly. If the certificate says “Rawaani (Private) Limited”, typing “Rawaani Pvt Ltd” in the form is enough to cause a problem.

Your website also counts. It should load properly over HTTPS, have no broken links, and show the same business name, address and phone number you enter in the form. Finally, have access to the business phone number or an email address on your own domain, such as info@yourcompany.com, because the confirmation code is sent there.

How to verify your business, step by step

On a desktop browser, the steps Meta currently lists are:

  1. Open Security Centre in Meta Business Suite. If you cannot open it, you probably do not have full control of the portfolio.
  2. Click Start verification.
  3. Enter the legal business name, address, phone number and website.
  4. Choose your business from the list Meta shows. If none of the records match, pick My business isn’t listed (or None of these match) and you will be asked to upload documents.
  5. Choose how to confirm your connection: email, phone call, text message, WhatsApp message, or domain verification with a meta tag or DNS record.
  6. Enter the code, or finish the domain step, and click Done. Meta will confirm that your submission has been received.

One shortcut: if you pay for ads through monthly invoicing (a line of credit), Meta says you may be able to use those credit details instead of uploading documents.

Which documents does Meta accept?

Whatever you upload has to show your legal business name and your official address or phone number. Meta lists these main types:

  • certificate or articles of incorporation
  • business registration certificate or business licence
  • a government-issued business tax document, such as a tax registration certificate (a self-filed tax return is not accepted)
  • a business bank statement
  • a utility bill, which only works for confirming the address or phone number, not the legal name

The documents must be valid and not expired. Meta supports many languages, including English, Indonesian, Arabic and Hindi. Urdu is not on the list, so for a document in Urdu you would upload an English translation stamped by a translation agency. You can also cover personal details Meta does not need, such as ID card numbers.

How long does verification take?

Meta says a decision can take up to 14 working days, and you will get a notification when it is ready. Keep in mind that if you change the business details later, for example a new phone number or address, you will have to verify again.

Why verification gets rejected

Meta’s own list of common reasons is short:

  • information that is false, misleading or looks suspicious
  • trying to verify a business you do not own or are not allowed to represent
  • trying to get around Meta’s review
  • a website that does not load, is not HTTPS, or has links that lead to error pages

In practice, the name mismatch we mentioned above is one of the most common problems. If you are rejected, check Security Centre for the reason. In some cases you can appeal.

Business verification vs Meta Verified

People mix these two up all the time, so here is the short version.

Business verification is free. It confirms that your business is real and unlocks features such as higher messaging limits and the WhatsApp Business Platform. It does not give a badge.

Meta Verified for businesses is a paid monthly subscription. It can add a verified badge to your Facebook Page or Instagram account and gives access to extra support, with its own eligibility rules.

For most small businesses, the first one is all they need.
