People leave a website that loads slowly. Speed also matters for Google, especially on mobile phones. The good news is that many speed problems have simple fixes.
1. Compress your images
Large photos are the most common reason for a slow page. Resize images to the size they are shown, and save them in a modern format such as WebP.
2. Choose good hosting
Cheap, crowded hosting makes every page slower. A reliable host with fast servers makes a clear difference.
3. Use caching
Caching saves a ready copy of your pages so they load quickly for repeat visitors. Most WordPress sites can use a caching plugin.
4. Keep plugins few
Every plugin adds code. Remove the ones you do not use and keep the rest updated.
5. Use fewer fonts
Each font and font weight is another file to load. One or two fonts are enough for a clean design.
6. Avoid heavy sliders and videos on the first screen
Large autoplay videos and sliders slow down the top of your page. A clear image and a short message work faster and convert better.
7. Keep your website updated
Updates for WordPress, your theme and plugins often include speed and security improvements.
8. Test and repeat
Use free tools such as Google PageSpeed Insights to test your pages, then fix the biggest items first. Test again after each change.
